Virus protection—supported software

How can I protect my computer from viruses?

  • Install anti-virus software and keep it up to date.
  • Configure the anti-virus software for increased protection.
There are links on the Virus protection page to guides that explain how to obtain, install and configure VirusScan anti-virus software. For information on how to protect your Mac see Sophos Anti-Virus software for the Mac.
  • Back up your data on a regular basis
  • Don't open or preview mail from unknown sources.
  • Be very wary of any email attachments you receive. If you do not know who it is from, delete the message. Otherwise first save the attachment to disk before opening it.
  • Don't download files from sources you don't trust.
  • Keep your operating system up to date.

For more information see the Anti-Virus Guidelines page.
